Sam Pittman ‘sorry to hear’ Conner Weigman injury news: ‘He was playing really well’
After news that Conner Weigman would be out for the season after suffering a foot injury last week against Auburn, Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman reacted to the news ahead of the Razorbacks bout with Texas A&M on Saturday.
Pittman expressed his condolences and praised Weigman for his play so far this season.
“Obviously I hate it for Conner Weigman, I do,” Pittman said. “He was playing really well. I’m sorry to hear that news, I really, really am.”
Before his injury, Weigman had racked up 979 yards and 8 touchdowns while throwing a pair of interceptions.
Now, Texas A&M will look to Max Johnson, who came in after Weigman’s injury against Auburn and put together a solid game.
“Fortunately for A&M, they have a wonderful backup quarterback and now starter in Max Johnson,” Pittman said. “Max has played in a lot of games, I remember him when he was in high school when I was over at Georgia. He’s a very, very good quarterback, we obviously know he can run. They run a lot of nakeds with him, a lot of boots with him. Get him outside the pocket as well. He’s a fine quarterback, fine person and I’m sure he’ll do well just like he did last week when he went in against Auburn.”
Johnson, an LSU transfer, has already posted 226 yards and 4 touchdowns as the backup. Now he will get the chance to show what he can do as the starter for the Aggies.
Texas A&M will have a tough game ahead as it faces Arkansas, which is coming off a narrow loss to LSU.
