Saturday’s College World Series schedule, broadcast information

The College World Series is down to one game to decide who joins Vanderbilt in the best-of-three championship series.

In case you missed it, Vanderbilt has advanced to the CWS finals after NC State forfeited early Saturday morning due to COVID-19 protocols.

D1Baseball’s Aaron Fitt reported that two unvaccinated NC State players tested positive for COVID-19 this week in Omaha. Per the guidelines, that prompted the NCAA to then test the entire Wolfpack roster, including the vaccinated players. Four NC State players then tested positive, and the NCAA ruled the game scheduled for Saturday a no-contest.

Vanderbilt fended off elimination on Friday by defeating a shorthanded NC State team 3-1. The Wolfpack played the Commodores with just 13 available players due to the COVID-19 protocols.

On the other side of the bracket, Mississippi State and Texas are playing Saturday evening to decide who will face Vanderbilt in the CWS finals.

Texas forced Saturday’s game with an 8-5 win over MSU early Saturday morning. Friday night’s game had a delayed start because of the Vanderbilt-NC State COVID delay and then there was a lengthy weather delay in the Bulldogs-Longhorns game, which finished around 2:30 a.m. ET.

Saturday’s meeting will be the fourth in 2021 between the two teams. Mississippi State topped Texas 8-3 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas to open the 2021 season in February. The Bulldogs then defeated the Longhorns in a 2-1 opening-round upset of this year’s CWS last weekend.
