Scot Loeffler, Bowling Green State’s head coach, will not travel with the team this weekend because of a personal health matter, the school announced ahead of the team’s noon ET kickoff at Mississippi State.

Associate head coach and inside linebackers coach Steve Morrison will serve as acting head coach on Saturday. Running backs coach Brian White will serve as the game manager on the field since Morrison is in the booth on gameday.

Loeffler is expected to return to the sideline at Akron on Oct. 1.

Bowling Green is off to a 1-2 start with a win last week over Marshall in overtime, 34-31, following losses to Eastern Kentucky in 7 overtimes, and UCLA.

At his press conference earlier this wek, Loeffler spoke about Mississippi State.

“We have an absolutely huge challenge,” he said, per Gene’s Page. “This is an upgraded version of what we just played. (Mississippi State) is super athletic, super physical. They can run like no other. Their offense is challenging and obviously their defense is the same way. It reminds you of San Diego State’s defense. It’s very difficult to identify. There are a lot of coverages in the back end. We will have out hands full for sure.”
