Scott Van Pelt’s “Bad Beats” segments on Monday nights during SportsCenter almost always come with a certain specialty, but some carry more pizazz than others.

Take this past Monday night, for instance. This wasn’t some major college football game, either, that Van Pelt was describing. It was just Lamar playing East Texas A&M, with the latter team getting 7.5 points.

And not only were the Lions getting a little over a touchdown for those who partake in that sort of thing, they were leading by 10, with the ball, with just under 10 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Sounds like a pretty safe bet, right?

Well, of course, that would be wrong, as Van Pelt told his audience on Monday night.

Apparently not. Lamar was down 23-13 but scored with a little over 9 minutes left to get back within 3. And that’s where it got really crazy, as the Cardinals scored the game-winning touchdown with 3 seconds left to go up 27-23.

But what a minute? With East Texas A&M getting those 7.5 points, weren’t the Lions’ bettors safe? Well, of course, no they weren’t, which is what makes this particular “Bad Beats” segment more insane than most.

As it turned out, 3 seconds was a little too much time for those East Texas A&M bettors who thought their wagers were safe even if the Lions’ victory had gone out the window. That’s why the game is never over until it’s over, with 0 seconds left on the clock, as Van Pelt described with insanity galore.

The final was Lamar 33, East Texas A&M 23, but the path to that final score wasn’t to be believed, which was Van Pelt’s point in this unforgettable “Bad Beats” segment:
