Scott Van Pelt has made his pick for the highly-anticipated matchup between Tennessee and Oklahoma on Saturday in Norman.

Van Pelt is off to a slow start on his weekly Winners segment in 2024, but he’s sticking to his usual strategy of picking home underdogs — at least for this matchup. He’s taking the Sooners +7 on Saturday night under the lights.

“Gotta hold onto your butts here,” Van Pelt said. “Vols are a wagon. But the Sooner Schooner is a wagon. With horses, the whole deal. And they’re getting an unheard of number at home. And I get why, because Tennessee might just be that good. But you known what this is right here? GPG. You know what that stands for: General Principle Game.”

Per ESPN, Van Pelt is 3-2 all-time when picking Oklahoma as part of this segment.

As Van Pelt alluded to, it’s extremely rare to see the Sooners as home underdogs — especially at this high of a number. Oklahoma hasn’t been an underdog at home since it hosted Ohio State in 2016. The Sooners haven’t been dogs by a touchdown or more since the 1998 season — a year before the Bob Stoops era began.

Overall, Oklahoma has lost just 13 times at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium since the start of the 2000 campaign.

Kickoff against the Vols is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
