Sean McDonough throws water on Clemson’s Hollywood ending: ‘The writers are on strike’

Clemson had a chance at a Hollywood ending on Saturday at the end of regulation against Florida State, but a field goal attempt sailed wide. Eventually, Florida State won in overtime.
Sean McDonough on the ABC broadcast was quick to point out to broadcast partner Greg McElroy that “The writers are on strike.”
McElroy first suggested the possible Hollywood ending as kicker Jonathan Weitz was a backup kicker for the previous 4 seasons but ended his college career after the 2022 season and graduation. But, while pursuing his masters degree online, coach Dabo Swinney called him this week to come back.
However, Weitz’ attempt from 29 yards with 1:45 remaining sailed wide left. That came after he made his first attempt in the return to Clemson.

The loss was another blow for Clemson, which was picked to win the league for an 8th time in 9 seasons and began the year ranked No. 9. But now this came after a mistake-filled showing in a 28-7 loss at Duke in Week 1.
