After spending his freshman season as a wide receiver, Alabama sophomore Trevon Diggs could be moving back to the secondary.

In the Crimson Tide’s first scrimmage of the season, Diggs was the first-team cornerback with Minkah Fitzpatrick sliding back to safety. Diggs worked at both safety and receiver last season, but in the secondary, Nick Saban sees him as a better fit at cornerback.

“He’s much more natural playing at corner than when we tried to play him at safety,” Saban said after the scrimmage, per AL.com. “That’s where he played in high school. (He’s) long. He has good toughness. He’s a good tackler. Plays the ball well in the deep part of the field and he’s done a good job of playing man-to-man. I don’t know what we’re going to do with him the rest of the spring. We’ll probably decide something after the end of this when we look at the scrimmage.”

According to Matt Zenits, a move back to wide receiver, where Diggs made 11 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown as a freshman, hasn’t been ruled out. As for now, however, he appears to be on track to step into former CB Marlon Humphrey’s spot.

“We’re pleased with the progress that he’s made,” Saban said.
