It is time to announce the All-SEC fantasy team of the week for Week 4. If you need a refresher on the rules or the scoring system, take a quick look at here.
Without further ado, here’s this week’s squad:
Co-QB: Kenny Hill (Texas A&M): 386 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 30 rushing yards — 32 points. Hill helped engineer a fantastic A&M comeback in an overtime win over Arkansas in Jerry World. The Razorbacks held the Aggies offense in check better than anyone else had so far this season, but that didn’t stop Hill from throwing for nearly 400 yards and 4 touchdowns. When Hill and the offense are in a rhythm, they are as potent as any offense in the nation, allowing Hill to routinely post fantastic fantasy numbers.
RB: Todd Gurley (Georgia): 208 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 30 receiving yards — 35 points. Gurley torched the Tennessee defense in another Heisman-caliber performance against an SEC foe. He appeared well rested after playing just one drive in last week’s rout of Troy, and attacked the Vols in every way imaginable. He went over 200 yards for the first time this season but cleared the 100-yard mark for the third time in four games, and his two touchdowns marked his second multi-touchdown performance of the season. Gurley is poised to be a fantasy monster the remainder of the season as he pursues an SEC East crown and a Heisman Trophy.
RB: Leonard Fournette (LSU): 122 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 33 receiving yards — 27 points. Fournette had by far his best game as a collegiate in a 63-7 win over New Mexico State, clearing the 100-yard plateau for the first time in his career. He also posted his first multi-touchdown game, although he did all of this against the Tigers’ weakest opponent of the season thus far. It remains to be seen whether he can continue his stellar play against SEC competition, but for one week the highly touted freshman was a beast in the LSU offense.
WR: Edward Pope (Texas A&M): 151 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns — 27 points. Pope had a monstrous game in A&M’s win over Arkansas, catching four passes for more than 150 yards, an average of more than 37 yards per catch. He had his first career multi-touchdown game, and more than doubled his production from all of last season (just 65 yards without a touchdown). Pope had been a factor in the Aggies offense this season, but never to this extent, proving any weapon in Kevin Sumlin’s offense has a chance to have a huge game any given Saturday.
WR: Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss): 123 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns — 24 points. Treadwell had been quiet in the Rebels’ last two games, but he looked like one of the premier receivers in the SEC with his performance against Memphis. Treadwell went over 100 yards for the second time this season, and posted his first multi-touchdown game of the year in a 24-3 victory. Treadwell has a great chance at more huge fantasy performances in upcoming weeks now that other Ole Miss threats have established themselves in the offense, prohibiting opposing secondaries from solely focusing on Treadwell.
TE: AJ Derby (Arkansas): 58 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown — 11 points. Derby entered last Saturday’s action with just five total catches for 48 yards on the year, but he blossomed against a shaky Texas A&M defense with 58 yards and his second touchdown of the season. Any tight end with a touchdown is a contender to make that week’s All-Fantasy team, and this week Derby was the man to get into the end zone. The Razorbacks still lost by seven, but their tight end did his part to help the passing game balance a run-heavy offense in Arkansas’ near-upset of A&M.
Def/ST: Kentucky: 7 points allowed, 139 yards allowed, 3 interceptions, 4 sacks — 16 points. Kentucky’s defense made the Vanderbilt offense look hopeless for most of the Cats’ 17-7 victory Saturday. The Commodores’ 7 points actually came from their defense on a pick-six, only furthering the case for the Wildcats’ dominance. Kentucky coach Mark Stoops comes from a defensive background, and Saturday’s win was his defense’s best performance since his arrival in Lexington in 2012. If the defense can play this well against the rest of the SEC, the Cats will remain competitive deep into the season.
co-K: Colby Delahoussaye (LSU): 9 of 9 extra points, 0 field goals attempted — 9 points. Delahoussaye was the beneficiary of nine LSU touchdowns against New Mexico State, simply booting 9 extra points to tie for the highest fantasy score by a kicker in the SEC this week. Nothing too exciting here, but congratulations to Delahoussaye for making something so easy look so easy.
co-K: Elliott Fry (South Carolina): 2 of 2 extra points, 33-yard field goal, 41-yard field goal — 9 points. Unlike Delahoussaye, Fry earned his high fantasy total with meaningful kicks in South Carolina’s 21-20 loss to Missouri last weekend. The Gamecocks needed all six points from Fry’s two field goals in a low-scoring affair for most of the night, although head coach Steve Spurrier admitted in hindsight he wished he had gone for two after South Carolina’s last touchdown rather than trotting Fry out for the extra point. Had he made that decision, it would have docked Fry one fantasy point, and surely he’d rather have won the game than made this fantasy team, but the past cannot be changed and here he is. Nevertheless, Fry was flawless under pressure, and that does deserve some recognition.
Week 5 total points: 181
For context’s sake, the Week 2 team amassed 185 point, the Week 3 squad racked up 207 points and the Week 4 team scored 194 points, making this week’s team the lowest scoring team of the year thus far (there was no team in Week 1).
