The SEC on Monday is out with its Players of the Week, and it includes a pair of incredible performances from Auburn and Kentucky.
Auburn junior forward/center Johni Broome, and Kentucky freshman guard Rob Dillingham are the honorees.
Broome averaged 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 blocks in wins over Vanderbilt and at Ole Miss. He recorded his 55th career double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocked shots against Vanderbilt. Then scored 15 points, nine rebounds, a career-high 7 assists and 3 blocks to hand the Rebels their first home loss of the season. He is currently on a 13-game double-digit scoring streak featuring 5 double-double performances.
Dillingham has been a bright spot even among UK’s freshmen, and last week averaged 27.5 points, 4 assists and 2.5 rebounds against Florida and No. 5 Tennessee. He opened the week with 20 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds against the Gators. He then scored a career-high 35 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 shooting from 3-point range.
As is often the case with John Calipari’s teams, Dillingham is the fourth different UK freshman to receive SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season joining D.J. Wagner (3 times), Reed Sheppard (twice) and Aaron Bradshaw as other honorees. The Wildcats have now won the award 7 of 13 weeks this season.
