The official start of the Jimbo Fisher era in College Station will now take place a bit sooner than originally scheduled.

The SEC announced Tuesday that the Aggies will now open the season against Northwestern State on Thursday, Aug. 30 instead of Saturday, Sept. 1. The game will remain in College Station, only the date is being changed:

Texas A&M’s football season opener vs. Northwestern State has been moved to Thursday, August 30 and will be televised on the SEC Network, the Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday.  Kickoff is slated for 7:30 pm CT / 8:30 pm ET at Kyle Field in College Station.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, September 1.

The move should bring more viewers to the game, as the Thursday night window provides far less competition from a viewing standpoint. The SEC did the same thing with Arkansas’ season opener last season against Florida A&M (in Little Rock) and Tennessee’s 2016 season opener against Appalachian State.
