SEC assistants better off than many head coaches

The SEC and the other Power Five conferences have changed the landscape of coaching appeal.

According to USAtoday.com, the average salary for assistant coaches in the SEC is higher than that of 12 FBS coaches outside of the Power Five conferences.

This year, eight assistant coaches within the biggest conferences were hired (or promoted) to head coaches with these same conferences.

Many assistant coaches jobs are even so alluring that coaches will leave their head coaching position at a smaller school for the pay raise.

For example, early this year Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos was hired by the Hogs from a head coaching role at Central Michigan. In the past few years, two other head coaches have left their Group of Five schools to become assistant coaches at Power Five schools.
