LSU made things interesting in the second half but Mississippi State finished off the Tigers by an 80-77 margin to close out the teams’ Thursday night appearance in the 2018 SEC Tournament. With the win, #7 seed Mississippi State advances to the quarterfinals to play #2 seed Tennessee on Friday.

MSU guard Lamar Peters led the Bulldogs with 24 points while Quinndary Weatherspoon adding 15 and Nick Weatherspoon chipped in 11 of his own. Mississippi State shot an impressive 58.3 percent in the game and had eight total blocks.

Despite suffering a loss, you can’t put LSU’s defeat on Tremont Waters. The freshman guard had a fantastic game, scoring 28 points and adding six assists in the contest.

According to ESPN’s Bracketologist Joe Lunardi, if Mississippi State can continue to win in the tournament and reach the championship game, the Bulldogs will have done enough to earn an NCAA Tournament bid. The Mississippi State-Tennessee game is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
