SEC buyouts per school: Recent payouts in wake of Jimbo Fisher’s $76 million pay off

Jimbo Fisher is going to receive a massive $76 million buyout after he was fired by Texas A&M Sunday morning.

Fisher’s buyout makes some recent SEC buyouts look nominal and SEC fans can feel much better about the money their teams had to dish out after firing coaches.

Before Fisher’s big pay day, Guz Malzahn held the biggest buyout number at $21.45 million following his firing by Auburn. Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron also got a big pay day at $17.1 million and Arkansas’ Bret Bielema, Flordia’s Dan Mullenand South Carolina’s Will Muschamp also all had buyouts worth more than $10 million.

With Fisher’s historic buyout, here is a look at each SEC team’s most recent buyouts.

    Mike Shula — $4 million (offset by NFL salary)
  • Arkansas
    Bret Bielema — $12 million
  • Auburn
    Gus Malzahn — $21.45 million
  • Florida
    Dan Mullen — $12 million
  • Georgia
    Mark Richt — $4.1 million
  • Kentucky
    Joker Phillips — $2.55 million
  • LSU
    Ed Orgeron — $17.1 million
  • Mississippi State
    Joe Moorhead — $7 million – $900,000 (offset by annual Oregon OC contract, ran through 2022) = $6,100,000
  • Mizzou
    Barry Odom — $2.85 million – $1.3 million (offset by Arkansas DC contract) = $1.55 million
  • Ole Miss
    Matt Luke — $9.6 million
  • South Carolina
    Will Muschamp — $12.9 million
  • Tennessee
    Butch Jones — $8.6 million – $105,000 (Alabama analyst) – $825,000 (Arkansas State HC) = $7,670,000
