SEC Media Days wrap up in Atlanta on Thursday, with Auburn’s Bryan Harsin, Tennessee’s Josh Heupel and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher closing out the event.
Now that all the coaches have had their main press conferences, reporter Alan Cole has compiled the most important stat of the week.
As you can see below, Cole ranked every SEC head coach by the number of words they said during their opening press conferences. Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea led the way with a robust 2,340-word opening statement. South Carolina’s Shane Beamer was the only other coach to top 2,000 words:
Here we go, the useless stat of the week absolutely nobody asked for, but I started keeping track of on Tuesday, the opening statements of all the SEC coaches by word count: pic.twitter.com/cw1D5e1nkj

At the other end of the spectrum, Mississippi State coach Mike Leach isn’t much for opening statements. His checked in at a hilariously brief 7 words this year. Harsin, Fisher, LSU’s Brian Kelly and Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin were the other coaches to say less than 1,000 words in their openers.
Leach is a safe bet to have the shortest opening statement again next year. Who will have the longest?
