SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic was in Nashville this week to see defending national champion LSU bounce back from a Week 1 loss to Mississippi State.
“Nice rebound. QB showed more confidence, climbed pocket well. Playing more 4 down helped,” Cubelic said Sunday of LSU’s 41-7 win over Vanderbilt.
After watching the six other SEC games, Cubelic shared his takeaways for all 14 conference teams via his Twitter account.
ARKANSAS:
Massive win for Pittman! Hell of a plan by Odom. Wasn’t overly aggressive. Keep them in front, make them work, be selective with pressure. Thought 42 played great up front. Franks did just enough. Turnovers were huge. Made MSU work. Just a different energy with the Hogs— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
FLORIDA:
QB is running on all cylinders. Still no answer out there for Pitts. OL is protecting well, would like to see more in the run game. Toney is a big time weapon. Matchup problems all over. Defense struggled early but got pressure late when needed. Carter showed up big.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
KENTUCKY:
Brutal way do drop a game. Played their game on one side of the ball. Just needed to capitalize on points & get a few stops. They don’t normally give up the big plays. OL & Run game fantastic. Penalties have just been brutal through two weeks. So untimely. Must clean up— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
Mississippi State:
Not having Hill most of the game obviously changes things. Not having 55 also hurt. Could not make the adjustments vs a new look. Can’t give up that much pressure vs 3 DL. Turnovers costly. Really interested to see how they look this week. Wont get many touches— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
OLE MISS:
Massive win for Lane. Finding ways to utilize all his weapons on offense. Has the players buying in & fighting. Also finding ways to overcome the defense. Fun group to watch & still a ton they can add. Corral looks like a new guy. They are going to be scary every week— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
TENNESSEE:
The OL we thought we would see this year. Statement made by that group. Two games in & ZERO turnovers for Guarantano. That is massive for this team. Backs ran hard. Palmer emerging as a playmaker. Pass rusher emerging up front. LB’s great. Massive test this week.— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
VANDERBILT:
Liked the plan on offense but need more shot plays. Stretch was going then seemed to get away from it. Did not tackle as well as week one. Should get RB back next week. Have to find more consistent pass rush, they have the guys. Seal will be fine. Lot of room to grow— Cole Cubelic (@colecubelic) October 4, 2020
