The opt-out of Ja’Marr Chase, last year’s winner of the Biletnikoff Award for best wide receiver in the country, has opened up a debate about who’s the top wideout in the SEC this season. On Tuesday, SEC Network analyst Jordan Rodgers shared his take
During “SEC Now,” Rodgers named the following wideouts his top 5:
- DeVonta Smith, Alabama
- George Pickens, Georgia
- Jaylen Waddle, Alabama
- Jhamon Ausbon, Texas A&M
- Seth Williams, Auburn
The SEC Network’s tweet of Rodgers’ top 5 asked, “Do you agree?” To no one’s surprise, not everyone agreed with Rodgers.
Seth Williams had 10 more catches, 103 more yards and scored the same amount of touchdowns as George Pickens last season. In two fewer games. https://t.co/fa8I1fGVbg

Arguably the worst rankings I’ve seen all offseason, which says a lot.
Pickens vs Auburn & Florida combined:
-2 Rec.
-15 Yards.
-0 TDs.That’s not 2nd place worthy. pic.twitter.com/KG0Dcokf5N

Steve Spurrier referred to July as the start of “talkin’ season.” Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, there were no SEC Media Days this July to officially kick-off this year’s “talkin’ season.” It’s safe to assume there will be plenty of “talkin’ season” debates around the SEC’s top players at wide receiver and other positions from now until Week 1.
