It’s pretty rare for a quarterback to be hailed as the savior after completing six of 14 passes (none in the second half) for 100 yards with a touchdown and an interception, but that’s how dire the LSU quarterback situation has become.
With that in mind, former LSU Tiger and current SEC Network analyst Booger McFarland went on 104.5 FM ESPN radio in Baton Rouge Wednesday morning and declared if head coach Les Miles does not start Danny Etling this week against Mississippi State — keeping in mind Etling is a quarterback who could not hold the job at Purdue — he could lose his team:
Booger McFarland (@SECbooger) on @1045espn's #YMD: "If he doesn't start Danny Etling Saturday, his team will quit on him." on Les Miles

In two years at Purdue, Etling completed just over 55 percent of his passes with 2,490 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Against Jacksonville State, LSU gave incumbent starter Brandon Harris two possessions before turning the offense over to Etling. In his first series, Etling threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to tight end DeSean Smith.
Although he didn’t do much else in the game, Etling did enough to impress McFarland:
Booger McFarland (@SECbooger) on @1045espn's #YMD: "We don't know what Etling can do yet, we just know that he's better than Harris." #LSU

McFarland also had some strong words for Harris, after the quarterback had some interesting Twitter activity this week:
McFarland on @1045espn's #YMD: "If you want to leave, don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya." On Brandon Harris tweet.

It would appear that in at least one alumnus’ mind, LSU has officially turned over to the Danny Etling era.
