The Southeastern Conference annually loses more talent to the NFL each offseason than any other conference but with so many elite prospects signing on to play in the league, there never seems to be a shortage of stars participating in the action on Saturdays.
So which players will be the next to step up and become household names?
That’s something SEC Network analysts Gene Chizik and Roman Harper were asked recently, and while they went a little chalk with their picks, we can’t argue with any of these players when it comes to breakout potential for the coming season.
Chizik offered up two names, Ole Miss quarterback John Rhys Plumlee and Tennessee running back Eric Gray.
“John Rhys Plumlee, to me, was the most interesting guy in the league last year when he came into the league,” Chizik says in the clip below.
“Eric Gray, he’s coming on at the end of the scene last year. Go back and watch the bowl game, go back and watch the Vanderbilt game when he ran for 250,” the former Auburn coach commented on the Tennessee explosive running back.
Meanwhile, Harper stayed in Athens for his two selections. Clearly, the new SEC Network analyst is a big believer in what Todd Monken will bring to UGA, as he selected Jamie Newman and George Pickens as his two breakout players.
“They are going to go hand and hand together,” Harper says in the clip below.
