The Florida Gators went to College Station and lost to Texas A&M 41-38 in Week 3 of this season.

Since then, coach Dan Mullen’s squad has looked like a College Football Playoff team. On Saturday night, the Gators routed Arkansas 63-35 behind 6 touchdown passes from QB Kyle Trask.

On Monday night’s “Thinking Out Loud” on the SEC Network, analyst Spencer Hall explained why he thinks Florida has rejoined the ranks of the national title contenders:

“I think the ceiling is that they are a legitimate national title contender,” Hall says. “Now that I’ve said that out loud, I’m filled with dread and panic. … Right now, they’re starting to develop a relief quarterback who can come in in goal-line situations in Emory Jones. They are throwing to 3, sometimes 4, running backs in the passing game, which makes things miserable for opposing defenses. They’ve got threats on the perimeter and they can throw to 10 different receivers. What do you do as a defense if I tell you you legit have to worry about 10 different dudes catching the ball? Guess what that does? It opens up the run game, opens up everything else. The passing game has taken a step forward with Kyle Trask not only learning to drive the ball more, but getting new pass concepts courtesy of offensive coordinator Brian Johnson. It’s awesome. You watch the kind of chemistry LSU had with Joe Burrow, that’s what (the Gators) are developing this year.”

To get to the Playoff, the Gators will almost certainly have to win out, including in the SEC Championship Game against (likely) Alabama. We’ll see if Mullen’s squad can keep the offensive explosion going.
