SEC players among Pro Football Focus’ Top 10 true freshmen in college football

Four SEC players were listed among Pro Football Focus’ Top 10 true freshmen in college football.

Alabama’s Jalen Hurts and Jonah Williams, Texas A&M’s Trayveon Williams and Florida’s Jawaan Taylor each ranked among the nation’s best first-year players.

Hurts ranked third, which was the highest of any SEC player. He earned a 79.2 grade, which is 13th among all FBS quarterbacks, according to Pro Football Focus. Hurts has thrown for 1,385 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions on 113 of 178 passing, while also rushing for 428 yards and eight touchdowns on 74 attempts.

Williams graded at 77.9 and leads all SEC players with 117.33 rushing yards per game and is third with 704 total rushing yards. The A&M back ranks eighth in FBS in yards after contact per atempt and 11th in elusiveness, according to the website.

Taylor received an 80.4 grade and was credit for posting his best run block grade since Week 2 during last week’s win over Missouri. He also provided “three excellent screen blocks” during the game, according to PFF.

Williams graded at 78.9 and is starting to get some attention after providing steady play throughout the season. In 234 snaps, he’s allowed two QB pressures, which ranks fourth in pass blocking efficiency.
