The SEC has produced more current NFL players than any other conference in America, and many of the Southeast’s former stars have continued to shine at football’s highest level.
Here are the best performances by SEC alums throughout the NFL in Week 11 action last weekend:
OFFENSE
- Jay Cutler:Â The former Vanderbilt quarterback bounced back from a few rough weeks with a quality performance against the Minnesota Vikings. He threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns while leading the Chicago Bears to a much-needed victory. It was the first time he’s thrown for more than 300 yards since Week 6.
- Eddy Lacy:Â Lacy was a huge part in Green Bay’s offensive production Sunday as he was a factor in both the running and receiving game. He recorded just 69 yards on the ground, but his 45 receiving yards and two total touchdowns made for a great day for the former Alabama running back.
- Alshon Jeffery:Â Alshon Jeffery continued his strong 2014 season with arguably one of his best games of the year. He caught a season-high 11 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown in the Bears’ 21-13 victory.
- AJ Green:Â The All-Pro wide receiver’s season has been a tumultuous one thus far. Marred by injury, Green’s struggled to develop much consistency as he’s missed a total of four games. On Sunday, Green gained some momentum with six catches for 127 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ road win at New Orleans.
- Mike Evans:Â Another week, another outstanding performance from the rookie wide receiver. He recorded his first career 200-receiving yard game, hauling in seven passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns. He also became the first rookie ever to record three straight games of at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Evans is clearly quarterback Josh McCown’s favorite receiver.
- Jordan Matthews:Â Vanderbilt’s best player in 2013 has carried over his success into the pros. With the injury to Nick Foles, Matthews has developed a strong rapport with new quarterback Mark Sanchez. He led the team with 107 receiving yards and one touchdown. It was his second straight game of at least 100 receiving yards.
DEFENSE
- Joe Haden:Â The Pro Bowl cornerback enjoyed the best game of his 2014 season so far. In addition to recording a team-high 13 total tackles, Haden also recorded an interception. That pick was his first interception of the season.
- Johnthan Banks:Â In his second season, Banks has filled into his expanded role within Tampa Bay’s secondary nicely. Yesterday, the former Mississippi State product recorded two tackles, but returned an interception for a touchdown in the Bucs’ win over the Redskins.
