Torrance Gibson, a highly-touted quarterback out of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has verbally committed to Ohio State, one of the nation’s top dual-threat playmakers announced Monday.

Gibson had offers from several SEC programs including LSU, Auburn and Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder led Plantation American Heritage to a state championship last season and was responsible for 29 touchdowns.

Gibson’s announcement coincided with his Army All-American jersey presentation on Monday. Gibson, listed as an athlete, is the perfect fit in Urban Meyer’s offense as a run-pass option and was one of the Buckeyes’ top targets during this recruiting cycle.

According to Mike Rumph, Gibson’s prep coach at American Heritage, the Ohio State coaching staff pinpointed Gibson as Braxton Miller’s replacement. In an interview with Ari Wasserman, a member of Northeast Ohio Media Group, Rumph talked about several meetings with Meyer and his staff during Gibson’s recruitment:

“You could tell how bad (Meyer) wants him,” Rumph said. “I got a great sense for that. When Coach Meyer came in here, that’s when it started to hit me – Braxton Miller, the zone-read, a quarterback that’s athletic and a fan base and support where Torrance can become a star. It’s almost perfect for him.”
