The SEC is starting to take form on who the contenders are, and who the pretenders are. The depth of the conference is starting to show, as some of the teams at the bottom of the standings are taking the top teams down to the wire.

There were some big-time individual performances this past week, and those players received recognition from the conference. Here’s a look at the Week 7 SEC Players of the Week:

The Offensive Player of the Week was LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier for his performance in the Tigers’ 29-26 overtime win against the Ole Miss Rebels. He threw for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns in the game. He also hit Kyren Lacy on LSU’s first play in overtime to get the win. That wasn’t the only national award he received, as he was also named the Reese’s Senior Bowl Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Nussmeier wasn’t the only LSU player to have a big game – linebacker Whit Weeks was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Weeks finished with 18 tackles, 2 TFLs and 1 sack in helping the Tigers slow down the high-flying Ole Miss offense.

Weeks was joined by another star linebacker in Texas’ Anthony Hill. Hill had 11 tackles, 3.5 TFLs and 2 sacks in the Longhorns 34-3 thrashing of rival Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

Vanderbilt was the talk of college football last week after its upset against Alabama, and the Commodores followed that up with a win at Kentucky. Kicker Brock Taylor had a big performance in that game and secured the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week award. He made 2 field goals in the game, making from 49 and 50 yards.
