SEC sets college football record for most bowl eligible teams in a season

Buckle up for a busy Bowl Season in the SEC. All but one conference team is going bowling.

Heading into Saturday’s regular-season finales, 11 SEC teams were bowl eligible. That number increased to a record 13 teams thanks to Saturday’s results.

Earlier Saturday, Florida got to 6 wins with a 24-21 home victory over in-state rival Florida State. Saturday night, LSU improved its record to 6-6 with a 27-24 upset win over No. 15 Texas A&M. Vanderbilt will not go bowling, as the Commodores finished the season 2-10 with a 45-21 loss to Tennessee.

The SEC bowl assignments will be revealed next weekend after the conference championship games. Right now, it’s clear that Georgia will be going to the College Football Playoff. Alabama and Ole Miss look to be going to New Year’s Six, with the Crimson Tide possibly making the CFP field of 4.

With LSU & Florida winning today, 13 of the 14 total teams in the SEC are now bowl eligible. That is the most from any conference in a single season in CFB history.
