SEC speed: The 4 fastest speeds reached by NFL RBs all came from former SEC stars

In recent years, the SEC has produced some incredible athletes at the running back position, and that is showing up on the NFL level.

In terms of the league’s fastest runners, there are literally no backs faster in game situations than former SEC stars.

This year, the four fastest speeds reached by NFL running backs were all clocked by ex-SEC players, with Leonard Fournette recording the top two speeds on the list and Derrick Henry and Todd Gurley checking in at third and fourth, respectively:

The fastest speeds reached by RBs during the 2017 NFL regular season (per Next Gen Stats):

1. Leonard Fournette – 22.05 MPH
2. Leonard Fournette – 21.76
3. Derrick Henry – 21.64
4. Todd Gurley – 21.23

Getting up to those speeds is an incredible accomplishment on an NFL field, and all three athletes have shown incredible burst during their time in the league.

There may be faster running backs out there, but none of them can translate that speed into game action quite like the former SEC stars.
