ESPN Films’ SEC Storied documentary series has been extremely successful since it’s debut in 2011. From extraordinary athletes to incredible games and moments in sports, the series has had success shedding light on the stories behind the stories.
Here are the films that will be released this fall:
“Stacy’s Gift” Presented by Dr. Pepper – Sunday, Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. ET
Stacy Lewis, a young golfer, was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 11. She would wear a brace for 18 hours a day except when she played golf, but then learned from doctors that she needed surgery that would likely end her career.
Lewis fought through her trials, however, and went to Arkansas on a scholarship that was honored even after her surgery. She was only able to swing a putter, but two years later, she became an SEC champion and NCAA champion.
“Scramblin’ Fran” Presented by Regions Bank – Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 9 p.m. ET
Fran Tarkenton had an unlikely rise at Georgia that included a memorable SEC title in 1959. This film follows the long and successful career he paved for himself and how he became an icon in Minnesota.
“The Sweat Solution” – Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 9 p.m. ET
“The Sweat Solution” explores the inception of the original Gatorade formula.
Originally produced for the 50th anniversary of Gatorade’s creation, the film tells the stories of so many of those who were involved in testing the original formula.
“By Grantland Rice” Presented by Chick-fil-A – Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. ET
“By Grantland Rice” follows legendary writer Grantland Rice, who knew Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, Christy Mathewson, Babe Didrikson and Bobby Jones.
His story began in the heart of SEC country, as “Granny” Rice was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., went to Vanderbilt and then began a remarkable journalism career, starting with his first job at the Nashville Daily News for $5 a week.
