SEC Streak Watch: Week 7 results sees Death Valley claim another AP top 10
Here’s a look at some notable streaks that were extended or shattered by the SEC teams that were in action in Week 7.
Alabama RB Derrick Henry has scored a touchdown (rushing or receiving) in 12 straight games, extending the Crimson Tide record for consecutive games accounting for a TD, which was previously held by former Tide quarterback Terry Davis.
Auburn ended a five-game losing streak in SEC games with its 30-27 win over Kentucky. That was Auburn’s longest losing streak in conference play since dropping 10 straight from 2011-12.
Florida coach Jim McElwain saw his six-game winning streak since arriving in Gainesville come to an end. McElwain is the first SEC coach to win his first six games since Houston Nutt won his first eight at Arkansas in 1998. Another impressive Florida streak came to an end as the team had recorded five straight games with at least 3 sacks, but the Gators failed to record one against LSU.
Georgia had gone 43 straight seasons without beating an opponent despite scoring fewer than 10 points before the Bulldogs beat Missouri 9-6 on Saturday. The last time Georgia beat a team despite scoring fewer than 10 points was back in 1971, when it beat North Carolina 7-3 in the Gator Bowl.
Kentucky had its first home game on a Thursday night since 1939 just three days ago against Auburn, a span of 76 years.
LSU has now beaten an AP top 10 team at home in six straight seasons. The Tigers beat No. 5 Alabama in 2010, No. 3 Arkansas in 2011, No. 3 South Carolina in 2012, No. 9 Texas A&M in 2013, No. 3 Ole Miss in 2014 before its most recent win over No. 8 Florida on Saturday.
Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott hasn’t thrown an interception in 274 consecutive passes, which is the 3rd-longest streak in SEC history. Prescott threw 43 passes without an interception on Saturday against Louisiana Tech. Prescott is now just 18 interception-free passes away from passing Georgia’s David Greene (291) for the 2nd-longest streak in SEC history and 52 passes away from passing Kentucky’s Andre Woodson (325) for the longest streak ever.
Missouri has recorded fewer than 200 total yards of offense against Georgia in back-to-back seasons. The Tigers only had six other games recording fewer than 200 total yards since 2000.
Ole Miss led Memphis 14-0 before Memphis scored 31 straight unanswered points on the way to a 37-24 win over the Rebels. As a result, Ole Miss fell victim to Memphis’ first win over a ranked opponent in 16 tries dating back to 1996.
South Carolina has trailed at halftime in seven straight games. In other words, every game this season. The Gamecocks trailed Vanderbilt 7-6 at halftime before winning 19-10 on Saturday. Also, the Gamecocks finally recorded an SEC win after starting 0-4 in conference play to start this season. The Gamecocks hadn’t started 0-4 in SEC play since the school’s 0-11 campaign in 1999.
Texas A&M hasn’t been 3-0 in conference play now for 11 straight seasons dating back to 2004, when the Aggies were a member of the Big 12. Texas A&M went 2-3 the rest of the way in Big 12 play that season, then lost to Tennessee 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl.
Vanderbilt has lost 11 straight SEC games, the longest active losing streak in the conference. The only school with a longer losing streak against its respective conference is Colorado, which has lost 14 straight games to Pac-12 teams after its 38-31 loss to Arizona on Saturday.
