Here’s a look at some notable streaks that were extended or shattered by the SEC teams that were in action in Week 11.
Alabama RB Derrick Henry has made the end zone his home, and he doesn’t want to leave. Henry has scored in 15 straight games, already a school record and the country’s longest active streak. Meanwhile, Alabama is on an eight-game win streak against Mississippi State, that’s the Tide’s second-longest active streak of success against an SEC West opponent. The only longer streak is against Arkansas (nine).
Arkansas RB Alex Collins has now rushed for 100 yards in four straight games. Amazingly, Collins has gone for 100 yards in 8 of 10 games this season. The only running back in the country with more 100-yard games than Collins is Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott, who has yet to be held under 100 yards in any of his 10 games played. Speaking of four-game streaks, Arkansas now has a four-game win streak, its first streak of that length since winning seven straight in 2011.
Auburn lost to Georgia despite out-rushing the Bulldogs 213 to 146. That snapped a 12-game streak in the rivalry in which the team to rush for more yards won the game. The team with fewer rushing yards in this series hadn’t won since 2002. On a positive note, kicker Daniel Carlson has made 14 straight field goals for Auburn after making both his attempts on Saturday, including a long of 42 yards in the second quarter.
Florida prevented a three-game losing streak against South Carolina with its 24-14 win on Saturday. The Gators had never lost three straight to the Gamecocks. Florida held South Carolina to just 201 yards of total offense, the third straight game in which the Gators haven’t allowed an opponent to record at least 250 yards (223 vs. Georgia, 175 vs. Vanderbilt). Florida has five such games this season, two more than any other SEC team.
Georgia took the lead in its all-time series with Auburn for the first time in 29 consecutive years. The Bulldogs hadn’t held a lead in the series since 1986 when they took a 42-41-7 lead.
Kentucky wrapped up conference play with a 2-5 record. The Wildcats have now failed to post at least three SEC wins in a season for six straight seasons dating back to 2009.
LSU RB Leonard Fournette has scored a rushing touchdown in 11 straight games, extending the school record he broke in the previous week’s loss to Alabama. That record of nine straight was once held by Charles Alexander, who played for the Tigers in the 1970s. LSU’s loss to Arkansas also marked just the third time the Tigers have lost back-to-back meetings in the series since the Razorbacks joined the SEC in 1992. The other instances were 1992-93 and 2007-08.
Mississippi State hadn’t allowed a fourth-quarter touchdown entering Week 11, having held nine straight opponents out of the end zone. That was before Derrick Henry’s 65-yard TD run in the final period on Saturday. The Bulldogs were the only SEC team to not allow a TD in the fourth quarter this season.
Missouri snapped its four-game losing streak with a 20-16 win over BYU on Saturday. The victory prevented the Tigers from matching their longest losing streak under coach Gary Pinkel, which was a five-game skid in 2004. Missouri also snapped a four-game streak of not scoring at least 20 points over that stretch. Mizzou hadn’t had a dubious string of games like that in 21 years dating back to 1994, when it started off that season with four straight games under 20 points.
South Carolina had its worst rushing performance in nearly 100 games (98) by only posting 21 yards against Florida on Saturday. That’s the lowest output for the Gamecocks on the ground since Sept. 13, 2008 vs. Georgia, when South Carolina only managed 18 yards.
Tennessee blanked North Texas 24-0 on Saturday. That’s the Vols’ first shutout since Butch Jones’ coaching debut in Knoxville, a 45-0 triumph over Austin Peay in the 2013 season opener, a span of 33 games.
Texas A&M‘s 41-17 win over Western Carolina marked the Aggies’ 20th straight non-conference win, which is the longest streak in the FBS. Texas A&M’s last defeat at the hands of a non-conference opponent came against Arkansas on Oct. 1, 2011 when the Aggies were a member of the Big 12.
Vanderbilt‘s defense has gone 10 straight games (all its opponents this season) holding opposing offenses below their season averages in points. It did it again in Saturday’s win over Kentucky, which came in averaging 21.4 points but only managed 17. On average, the Commodores have held those 10 opponents to a little more than two touchdowns fewer than their season averages (14.1 points per game). That’s impressive considering the ‘Dores have faced some of the most prolific offenses this season in Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee and Houston. It’s worth mentioning Georgia also since it had RB Nick Chubb at the time of the game.
