Saturday marked 364 days since Mississippi State’s last loss — a Week 12 loss to Alabama late in the 2013 regular season.
The Bulldogs’ 12-game win streak came to an end on Saturday with a loss to, you guessed it, Alabama in Week 12. Mississippi State won its final three games of last season (including the 2013 Liberty Bowl) and began this season 9-0 before falling to Alabama.
The Bulldogs fell one win shy of tying the school’s longest win streak in history, a 13-game win streak from 1992-1994.
Here are some other streaks from around the SEC that were extended or ended this weekend:
Alabama: The Crimson Tide scored in its 179th consecutive game, extending the longest streak in school history, and it scored in the first half of its 99th straight game in Saturday’s win over Mississippi State. The Tide also took down the Bulldogs for the seventh year in a row following Saturday’s showdown.
Arkansas: The Razorbacks snapped a 17-game SEC losing streak with its 17-0 win over LSU in Week 12, earning their first conference win since beating Kentucky on Oct. 13, 2012. The Hogs’ losing streak in the SEC was the longest conference losing streak by any power five conference team in the nation prior to Saturday’s win.
Auburn: Tigers’ wideout Sammie Coates caught a pass in a 16th straight game dating back to last season. He caught three passes for 31 yards in Auburn’s 34-7 loss to Georgia on Saturday. Cameron Artis-Payne also rushed for a touchdown in a fourth straight game in the loss.
Florida: The Gators’ overtime loss to South Carolina in Week 12 snapped their four-game overtime winning streak, and marked their first overtime loss since the 1990s.
LSU: The Tigers lost their second straight game with Saturday’s loss to Arkansas, marking the team’s first losing streak since the 2008 season. Head coach Les Miles is now 25-2 following a loss at LSU. The Tigers also missed their chance to win eight games in 15 straight season, but they’ll have one more chance at an eighth win in the season finale against Texas A&M in two weeks.
Mississippi State: Senior defensive end Preston Smith recorded a tackle for loss in a ninth straight game in Saturday’s loss to Alabama, and quarterback Dak Prescott accounted for a touchdown (either passing or rushing) in his 12th straight game.
Missouri: The Tigers won their ninth straight road game dating back to last season with Saturday’s 34-27 win over Texas A&M in College Station.
Tennessee: Vols kicker Aaron Medley missed an extra point during Tennessee’s 50-16 rout of Kentucky on Saturday, snapping a streak of 29 straight made PATs. Linebacker A.J. Johnson recorded his 100th tackle in the win, marking his third straight season with at least 100 tackles.
Texas A&M: The Aggies scored three touchdowns in its loss to Missouri on Saturday, pushing it over the 50-touchdown plateau on the season. Texas A&M has now scored at least 50 touchdowns for six straight season, extending the longest streak in school history. Aggies kicker Josh Lambo was also 3 of 3 on extra points Saturday, extending his streak of consecutive made PATs to 101. He became just the second kicker in school history to convert at least 100 straight PATs (Randy Bullock is the other).
