With tons of SEC action every Saturday, there are always going to be plenty of highlight reel plays. Week 9 featured several dramatic finishes and some impressive offensive performances. Of course, there are also those plays that are better off forgotten. Here at Saturday Down South, we don’t forget. Let’s run down the worst of the week that was.
5. Arkansas kicker does a belly flop
Fans will always appreciate a player getting his jersey dirty for the sake of the team. As UAB returned a kickoff for a 100-yard touchdown late in Arkansas’ win Saturday, Razorbacks kicker Adam McFain got a bit dirty, although I’m not sure this one was intentional. As he ran in vain to chase down Jamarcus Nelson, McFain took a spill and landed right on his belly. Good effort, though, right?
4. Mizzou tells fans not to rush the field…against Vanderbilt
Missouri gives the obligatory “don’t rush the field” announcement. I wouldn’t worry too much about that one.

The Tigers are still new to the SEC, playing just their third season as a member of the conference. Even they should know that beating Vanderbilt is no cause for fans to storm the field, even for homecoming weekend.
3. Jamal Adams flops (again)
LSU’s freshman defensive back is gaining quite the reputation as a fearsome hitter for the Tigers defense. He’s also becoming known as a serial flopper. Two weeks ago, he put on an award-winning performance while drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Florida. He did it again against Ole Miss. Bo Wallace definitely put a shoulder into Adams, but once again the freshman exaggerated contact big time to help draw a flag (the penalty was offset, though).
2. Kentucky’s special teams
The Wildcats are really struggling in the special teams phase of the game the last few weeks. This week’s gaffe was a costly one. After pulling within a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Kentucky had a great opportunity to tie the game, trying for an onside kick from the 50-yard line. Punter Landon Foster was the man who ended up booting the ball, and he put far too much bounce on it. The ball caromed straight to Mississippi State’s Christian Holmes, who streaked right through the Kentucky hands team for a touchdown to seal the game.
1. Ole Miss’ late-game execution
Everyone saw the Rebels completely botch their end-of-game opportunity to tie against LSU. With 9 seconds left, Ole Miss opted to go for a third down, 42-yard field goal attempt. Hugh Freeze didn’t get the kicking unit on fast enough, taking a delay of game. They decided to try one more play, which resulted in a bad Bo Wallace interception to seal the game. The previous drive was just as ugly; Ole Miss took the ball with about 5 minutes remaining, but were sluggish in getting to the line and wasted huge chunks of clock. They were lucky to get the ball back for another possession, even if they botched that as well.
