The Pac-12 season has yet to even begin, but it’s already had a pair of cancellations.

On Friday, the conference announced that Saturday’s game between Arizona and Utah has been canceled. The news came only a day after the season opener between Cal and Washington was also canceled.

There were six Pac-12 games scheduled for Saturday with the conference becoming the last among the Power Five to get the 2020 season underway. Now, the slate is down to four — Arizona State at No. 20 USC, UCLA at Colorado, Stanford at No. 12 Oregon and Washington State at Oregon State.

The Arizona-Utah matchup was canceled due to the Utes not having enough scholarship players available as they had a number of players test positive for COVID-19.

Arizona will now begin its season with a home matchup against USC on Nov. 14. It’s unclear when Utah will be able to take the field, but its next scheduled game is against UCLA on Nov. 13.

The pandemic has caused events throughout the sports world to be postponed or canceled for the past several months, and it’s unlikely that’s going to change soon. But for now, the Pac-12 season is set to begin with the matchups still in place on what should be an exciting Saturday for college football around the country.
