The SEC’s Worst of Week 4

Not a day goes by where someone doesn’t make a fool of themselves on Twitter. The social media website was among the favorite tools of those suffering from brain-lock during Week 4 of play in the SEC. Here’s a look at some of the worst moments from the week that was in the SEC.

5. Twitter Malfunction: Caleb Brantley is going to learn a painful lesson: never mess with someone who has access to your protective cup. The Florida defensive tackle turned to Twitter the night before the Gators’ Week 4 matchup against Tennessee to rag on his own equipment staff.

It looks like Brantley’s equipment fit correctly against the Vols. He sophomore finished with 3 tackles, including a sack in the Gators’ 28-27 win.

4. Doink: Not to pick on 4-0 Florida, but it’s worth noting that the Gators trailed Tennessee for most of their Week 4 matchup against the Volunteers — mostly due to non-catches such as this one. It worked out, however, as quarterback Will Grier finished with 283 yards passing and 2 touchdowns, both coming on the Gators’ final two drives. Unfortunately for No. 18 C.J. Worton, none of those yards belonged to the sophomore wide receiver.

3. Squawk Box: Confidence appears to be in no short supply in Oxford. The nation’s No. 3 team Ole Miss has inspired the city’s police force to take to Twitter to banter with their peers in rival cities, including the Gainesville Police Department’s twitter feed. When police departments are using terms such as “BFF” and “Mic Drop” in official department tweets, you have to wonder if it’s gone too far. The Oxford Police took all the wonder out of the equation on Sept. 27, simultaneously trolling Florida and the health of Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. 2. Syracuse feeling punchy: Riley Dixon is an excitable guy — or a future pugilist. The Syracuse punter appeared to throw a punch in the Orange’s Week 4 game against LSU in the Carrier Dome. Dixon bulldozed five yards on fourth-and-four to get a hard-earned first down on the Tigers’ 29 yard line. Fired up after surviving a wallop, Dixon jumped to his feet and threw what looked like a punch. The refs didn’t flag him, but the late-second-quarter drive, however, stalled on the final play of the half when Dixon’s special teams counterpart Cole Murphy missed a 31-yard field goal. What do you think? Did Dixon throw a haymaker or was he just excessively celebrating?

1. Arkansacked: Arkansas entered its Week 4 contest against Texas A&M having yet to allow a sack this season. The Aggies, however, were able to get to Brandon Allen twice — the latter which caused the senior quarterback to put the ball on the turf. Prior to the turnover, the Razorbacks had the ball on second down around midfield with 1:04 remaining and the game knotted at 21. The Myles Garrett sack and subsequent A.J. Hilliard fumble recovery set Texas A&M up at the Arkansas 41 yard line. The Razorbacks went on to lose 28-21 in overtime falling to 1-3 (0-1 SEC) on the season.
