Seth McLaughlin is out for the rest of the 2024 season with an injury, but that hasn’t stopped him from having some fun on Ohio State’s sideline during the College Football Playoff.

McLaughlin, who transferred in from Alabama after the 2023 campaign, smoked a cigar late in the 4th quarter of the Buckeyes’ blowout win over Tennessee in the first round of the CFP. The cigar was a nod to the tradition for the winning team in the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry.

“I know that if you beat Tennessee, you gotta smoke your cigar,” McLaughlin told 247Sports on Saturday.

The broadcast even caught a glimpse of McLaughlin smoking the cigar during the game last month:

McLaughlin told 247Sports that he stuffed the cigar in his pocket after Ohio State built up a big lead at halftime. Then, late in the game, he found a flame from a space heater on the sideline to light the cigar.

He also said he heard from multiple former Alabama teammates after the game.

“A few of them reached out and they were laughing about it,” McLaughlin told 247Sports. “It was just cool to see the reaction like the Alabama fans. I spent four years there and enjoyed my time there. I’m an Alabama guy, I’m also a Buckeyes guy. So it was fun.”

McLaughlin will once again be on the sidelines to support his Ohio State teammates on Monday evening as they battle Notre Dame in the National Championship Game.
