Ole Miss is dealing with a host of hamstring injuries as it prepares for the season opener on Saturday against Texas Tech.
The Rebels are particularly hobbled at wide receiver and defensive back where A.J. Brown, DaMarkus Lodge and Ken Webster are among the players limited or missing practice time.
Brown, arguably the SEC’s best receiver, led the league with 1,252 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He’s missed about two weeks this season, and now coaches are being extra careful so he doesn’t tweak it leading up to the game.
Webster is listed third on the depth chart, and coach Matt Luke previously said Webster was among the players he was most concerned about returning for the first game.
The Rebels are set to kick off their season on Saturday at noon ET in Houston on ESPN.
Injury update: WRs A.J. Brown (hamstring), Braylon Sanders (hamstring) and DaMarkus Lodge (ankle), and CB Javien Hamilton (hamstring) practiced yesterday. CB Ken Webster (hamstring) is expected to return to practice Tuesday. He is listed as probable for Saturday's game.

Elijah Moore will return punts. Luke said Tylan Knight is a possibility too. A.J. Brown hasn't worked much as a punt returner while dealing with hamstring injury.
