Shane Beamer says that he is coaching at his dream job as his name gets connected to an active coaching search at a familiar program.
In his Sunday teleconference with the media, Beamer was asked about a recent article by Brad Crawford of CBS Sports. Crawford wrote that, per sources, Beamer to Virginia Tech was “more than speculation” and had “legitimacy.” Crawford laid out that South Carolina‘s struggles in a disappointing 2025 season could have Beamer looking for an “escape hatch.”
As most college football fans are familiar, Virginia Tech is Beamer’s alma mater. He played wide receiver and long snapper from 1995-99, coached by his father, Frank Beamer. The elder Beamer had a decorated coaching career, leading Virginia Tech from 1987-2015. Frank Beamer was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
On Sunday night, Shane Beamer addressed the story and maintained that South Carolina is his dream job.
“I have no idea where that story came from,” Beamer said. “I have conveyed publicly many times how much I want to be here. And I respect the question, I understand you asking it, and I’m not mad. I’ve conveyed many times how much I want to be here. This is my dream job. I said that when I came here. Nothing has changed. I am pissed off at the way we are performing right now, and it’s not acceptable.
“I came here to win a championship, and right now we’re not getting it done, and my focus right now is on getting it fixed, and getting back to, last year, we were two points away from being in the College Football Playoff, and I am working my rear end off to get us back to where we’re in that mix and playoff talk. And that’s the same thing I told our football team today, that I guess the gist of that article was that would be a parachute or something for me to get out of here and have a soft landing spot. Well, I’m not happy with where we are right now, and I’m determined to get it fixed. We’re in a storm right now that I’m going to get us out of.”
South Carolina is 3-4 heading into a Week 9 showdown with No. 4 Alabama. The Gamecocks started the year 2-0, but have gone 1-4 in conference play.
