Shane Beamer comments on North Carolina WR Tez Walker’s eligibility case
Shane Beamer said Wednesday he believes it would be a “shame” if North Carolina wide receiver Tez Walker is ineligible for the 2023 season.
Beamer shared that opinion with 247Sports’ Brandon Marcello. Beamer and the Gamecocks are preparing to face North Carolina in Charlotte on Sept. 2.
“To me personally, I think it’d be a shame if he wasn’t eligible.”
I’m hanging with Shane Beamer today and brought up Tez Walker. South Carolina opens the season against North Carolina. He tells @247Sports he believes the receiver should be allowed to play.

Walker is a transfer from Kent State who committed to North Carolina last December. In January, the NCAA announced updated, more strict guidelines for multi-time transfers.
Prior to playing for Kent State, Walker was enrolled at NC Central for the 2020 season. However, he did not play in a game for the program due to the season being canceled because of COVID-19.
Over the past 2 seasons at Kent State, Walker developed into an elite receiver. He caught 58 passes for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022. He was expected to play a big role in UNC’s offense this season.
According to a report, North Carolina still has some optimism that Walker’s eligibility ruling will be overturned in time for the season-opener against the Gamecocks.
South Carolina and North Carolina will face off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 2.
