Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks are planning to start the 2022 season with a bang. They’ll host Georgia State on Saturday, Sept. 3.
That’s not necessarily a marquee game, but Beamer noted on Tuesday that it does provide a recruiting advantage for the Gamecocks.
Beamer pointed out that a lot of the teams South Carolina directly recruits against in the region, including Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee and North Carolina, don’t have home games on Saturday night, thus ensuring regional recruits can head to Williams-Brice Stadium:
Beamer: 'Lot of these teams we recruit against dont have home games next Saturday night, so recruits, if you want to see a college football game next Saturday night, Columbia, SC is a great place to be.
Georgia, Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina; all do not play at home on 9/2.

Georgia opens the 2022 season with a “neutral-site” game against Oregon in Atlanta. Clemson will take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Monday, Sept. 5. North Carolina travels to Appalachian State on Sept. 3.
Tennessee will host a Week 1 game against Ball State, but that contest is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1, rather than Saturday.
We’ll see if Beamer and the Gamecocks can convert this recruiting opportunity into some commitments.
