Shane Beamer spoke at the poor offensive line play that took place in Week 1. This was said at the SEC teleconference on Wednesday.
South Carolina gave up 9 sacks in the 31-17 loss to North Carolina. The Tar Heels had just 17 sacks as a team last season.
Beamer noted that when a team gives up that many sacks, the blame is on everyone. The whole team looked out of sync at times to Beamer.
“Any time you give up that many sacks, we all have a hand in it, every player on the offense and every coach. We had some issues where maybe the other running back wasn’t where he was supposed to be. Quarterback maybe a couple times got out of the pocket before he needed to, so we all had a hand in it. The bulk of it was the offensive line, but it’s nothing that (wasn’t) fixable, a lot it was technique, we need to get that cleaned up, but also give North Carolina credit too. Because that’s a really good defensive line and a lot of those guys are highly recruited and could’ve gone anywhere in the country and decided to go to Chapel Hill. So they had our respect going into the game and certainly have our respect coming out of the game as well with how they played.”
The Gamecocks will now look ahead to Furman in Week 2. The Furman game could a good way for South Carolina to get back into rhythm.
Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday on ESPN+.
