Shane Beamer gives Palmetto Bowl updates for Nyck Harbor, Dylan Stewart
Everything went right for South Carolina in a 51-7 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday. And that was without several key starters.
The Gamecocks were without Nyck Harbor, their leading receiver, and Dylan Stewart, their top havoc-creator on defense. Harbor suffered an injury during the loss to Texas A&M last week that kept him out of action. Stewart was limited throughout the week by a nagging injury from earlier in the month.
After the game, coach Shane Beamer said he expects both will be ready for next Saturday’s Palmetto Bowl clash with Clemson.
“Nyck and Dylan should be good for next week,” Beamer said, per The Big Spur’s Alex Jones. “Nyck was not able to go tonight, not totally cleared. He ran the other day and ran fast the other day, so we’re hopeful that he’ll be fine for next Saturday.
“Dylan kind of had something aggravated him that was the question mark before the Ole Miss game, when we had him questionable in the injury report the Friday night before the game. He practiced in a limited role this week, but just didn’t feel quite able to go. But, I think he’ll be fine for Saturday.”
Harbor leads the team in receiving this season. He had 24 receptions for 503 yards and 5 scores heading into Week 13. He had found the endzone in each of South Carolina’s last 4 games, and had at least 54 yards in each of the last 3.
He was coming off his best game of his career — a 102-yard effort against A&M.
Stewart is the Gamecocks’ premier playmaker on defense. Entering the weekend, he led the team with 12 tackles for loss this year. He also has 4.5 sacks.
Next week’s game against Clemson is scheduled for a noon ET kick on SEC Network.
