Since South Carolina named Zeb Noland as starting quarterback on Tuesday morning, the attention shifted to Luke Doty’s updated timeline for a return to action.
Coach Shane Beamer addressed what he knows at his press conference.
“I would hope if not this week, certainly next week. He’s in tennis shoes, he’s not in the boot anymore,” Beamer said. “He’s not on the scooter, he’s not on an air cast. He was out at practice following the quarterbacks around and was in tennis shoes today. So I think he’ll continue to progress, it’s only Tuesday. We’ll see what happens Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Hopefully he comes along. But I think it’s very realistic that as we go into next week, he’ll be getting really, really close to 100 percent.”
Doty suffered the injury about 2 weeks ago, and it was a mid-foot fracture and minor ligament damage after getting inadvertently stepped on late in practice.
The Gamecocks open with Eastern Illinois on Saturday night in Williams-Brice Stadium.
