South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer provided updates on several banged up Gamecocks at his weekly press conference Tuesday afternoon.
Beamer touched on the progress of punter Kai Kroeger and running back Christian Beal-Smith specifically.
“Kai Kroeger and Christian Beal-Smith are our two most concerned about guys if you will,” Beamer said. “But here we are on Tuesday, a week and a half before we play, and I’m optimistic that both of those guys will be out there against Georgia State next Saturday night, but if not, we’ll be ready to roll. But they’re the only two guys that are question marks at this point from a personnel standpoint going into the first game, injury-wise.”
Beamer was enthusiastic about running back MarShawn Lloyd, who missed South Carolina’s first scrimmage of the year.
“He’s fine,” Beamer said, via On3 Sports. “He’s a little bit more ahead than Christian. No concerns on MarShawn. He practiced today. He’s playing running back, playing some special teams stuff out there. He’s fine.”
Lloyd and Beal-Smith are likely to be the two featured backs in Beamer’s offense this season following the departures of Kevin Harris and ZaQuandre White.
