Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks suffered a tough loss on Saturday night, as they lost at home to Vanderbilt by a score of 31-7. To make things worse, quarterback LaNorris Sellers left the game with a head injury in the first half.
With a huge road game looming in Columbia next week at Missouri, everyone in the program needs to be 100 percent focused on that game. However, that isn’t the case for Beamer, after Virginia Tech announced that Brent Pry was being fired as the coach on Sunday after the Hokies fell to 0-3 on Saturday night.
Beamer’s father, Frank Beamer, was the coach at Virginia Tech from 1987-2015, so there will obviously be chatter about Beamer taking over where his dad had a legendary coaching career. Beamer was asked about those rumors about Virginia Tech, and said he is focused on South Carolina.
“I think the week of the Virginia Tech game, I told everyone how I feel about South Carolina and my love for this place,” he told reporters on his weekly teleconference on Sunday afternoon, via The State. “That’s where my focus is at right now, just getting our football team better.”
Beamer said the right thing there, but that isn’t going to stop the speculation from continuing. His name is likely going to be rumored and associated with Virginia Tech until they make an announcement on who their next coach will be.
South Carolina will face Mizzou in Week 4.
