New South Carolina coach Shane Beamer spent part of his Monday morning updating his social media bio information, and shared his first message on Twitter.

Even after he landed on Sunday in Columbia, his Twitter bio still had references to Oklahoma. But as he prepares for his introductory press conference this afternoon, Beamer has shared his first message.

Beamer, 43, visited the football facilities at South Carolina on Sunday alongside athletic director Ray Tanner and was introduced to the team in an afternoon meeting.

This is the first head coaching job for Beamer after he spent the past 3 seasons as assistant head coach and tight ends coach at Oklahoma. Beamer has extensive experience as an assistant at Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State.

He played at Virginia Tech under his father, longtime Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer. And he takes over for former coach Will Muschamp, who was fired last month with 3 games left in the season.

Beamer is tasked with turning around the Gamecocks, who have gone 6-16 overall and 5-15 in the SEC the past 2 seasons. Gamecock faithful are hoping he can return the program to the winning ways last seen under Steve Spurrier when Beamer served as an assistant for 4 seasons from 2007-10.

He was recruiting coordinator his final 3 seasons, and those teams won the SEC East in 2010 and went 11-2 each year from 2011-13.
