Shemar Stewart met with reporters in College Station on Monday ahead of Texas A&M’s trip to Gainesville in Week 3.

The Aggies will try to do something this weekend that they haven’t done in nearly 3 years: win a road game.

Texas A&M has lost 10 consecutive away games entering this weekend’s trip to Gainesville. But Stewart says the team is intent on ending that loathsome streak this weekend against Florida.

“I’ve been here 3 years, and it’s not like we go out there playing to lose,” Stewart said Monday. “We play our hearts out, but sometimes we just came up short. I don’t know what it was back then, but I’m feeling pretty confident in Saturday and we go in there and come out with a W.

“I feel like the team really stepped it up a notch today in practice. Like, we had a different tempo to us today.”

Later in the press conference, Stewart asked a Texas A&M staffer how long it had been since the Aggies had won an away game. He was surprised at the answer — to the point of laughter.

Texas A&M’s most recent road win came on Oct. 16, 2021 over Missouri. The Aggies won that game 35-14. Since then, they’ve lost 10 consecutive road games. Nine of those 10 losses have come to SEC opponents: Ole Miss (twice), LSU (twice), Mississippi State, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee. The other road loss came to Miami in nonconference play last September.

Ten games is already the longest road losing streak in Texas A&M football history. Of course, all 10 of those programs belong to the previous regime in College Station. Mike Elko and his staff will be looking to get started on the right foot as they look for their first SEC win at Texas A&M.

Texas A&M is a 4.5-point favorite over the Gators on Saturday, according to the latest lines from FanDuel.

Kickoff from Gainesville is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
