National Signing Day Prediction: LSU

Can you have a top recruiting class without a top quarterback commit? It seems like LSU is going to try to make that happen in 2016. The Tigers have the No. 2 class in the nation, just behind Ohio State, and remain comfortably ahead of the next few schools trying to catch them. The good news for Tigers fans is LSU is trying to add more to this class. The bad news is that a quarterback isn’t likely to be one of those additions.

Here’s a review of LSU’s signing class with less than three weeks remaining before signing day and a few predictions on where the Tigers could end up in February. We use 247Sports composite team and player rankings:

CURRENT STANDING

National recruiting rank: 2
SEC recruiting rank: 1
Number of commits or signees in class: 20

EARLY ENROLLEES

Saivion Smith, CB, St. Petersburg, Fla. (five stars)
Michael Divinity, LB, Marrero, La. (four stars)
Devin White, RB, Springhill, La. (four stars)
Stephen Sullivan, WR, Donaldsonville, La. (four stars)

NOTABLE COMMITS

Eric Monroe, S, Houston, Texas (four stars)
Edwin Alexander, DT, Hammond, La. (four stars)
Erick Fowler, LB, Manor, Texas (four stars)
Drake Davis, WR, Baton Rouge, La. (four stars)

REMAINING PRIMARY TARGETS

Rashard Lawrence, DT, Monroe, La. (five stars, took official visit on Jan. 15)
Kristian Fulton, CB, Metarie, La. (four stars, took official visit on Jan. 15)
Nigel Warrior, LB, Suwanee, Ga. (four stars, took official visit on Jan. 15)
Trayvon Mullen, CB, Coconut Creek, Fla. (four stars, official visit on Jan. 22)
Deontay Anderson, S, Manvel, Texas (four stars, official visit on Jan. 22)

SIGNING DAY PREDICTION

I could add 3-5 more names to the target list. The main target is Lawrence, who will make his decision on Jan. 22 betweeen LSU and Ohio State. After losing the commitment of Feleipe Franks a few months ago it does not look like LSU will try to get a quarterback in this class. This could be, however, one of the finest defensive recruiting classes ever assembled. If Lawrence joins the class along with a few other prospects, LSU should be No. 1 on signing day.
