Not too long ago, it was Blake Sims who found himself in the middle of a quarterback battle at Alabama.

Needless to say, it was a bit different than the current one that’s unfolding in Tuscaloosa.

Sims was at Alabama’s Pro Day on Wednesday to throw to the former Tide wideouts. Naturally, he was asked about what he thought about the battle between Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa.

He had nothing but praise for Hurts after watching him get benched in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

“He dealt with it better than I would’ve, most definitely. Just to know that you only lost two games your whole (career) and you get pulled, I was very surprised to see a smile on his face, because what player would you see with a smile?” Sims said via 247sports. “I hope that showed everyone that he’s more about the team than himself and that he wants to be a winner. You can’t do nothing but respect that.”

The question is if Hurts will be relegated to the sidelines or if he’ll be relied on to play in a rotation. Nick Saban said that he was open to the idea of playing both quarterbacks.

What does Sims think about that idea?

“Oh, yes sir. I think that would be very good,” Sims said via 247sports. “I think it would be harder for the defense to prepare for our games because both quarterbacks’ strengths are different. You’ve got to accept what you get, and Coach Saban’s the GOAT, man, so he’ll make sure we do the right thing.”

Alabama will kick off spring practice on March 20.
