The news of Taulia Tagovailoa’s decision to enter the transfer portal rocked the college football world on Friday. While Alabama media called it a poorly kept secret, many fans of other teams weren’t aware that the younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa was planning to leave the Crimson Tide program.
On Twitter, some with inside knowledge of the situation shared background on what went into Tagovailoa’s decision. Tide fans wished him well and there was plenty of speculation about where Taulia will take his talents.
Here’s a small sample of what’s being said:
Going back to my Bama recruiting roots, Taulia told me on multiple occasions how he only wanted to go to Alabama just because it would be easier on his parents to go to games. He didn’t want to be in Tua’s shadow https://t.co/hUvZ2qxNeh

Good luck to QB Taulia Tagovailoa wherever you go.
QB D'Eriq King is "The Man" at Miami this year, but if the family wanted to be in the same city as Tua, Hurricanes job in 2021 seems open for competition.

Friday news dump pandemic style. Taulia Tagovailoa (Tua's little brother) has entered the transfer portal. Don't be surprised if he ends up at FIU.

Exactly.
Still think it's more likely Taulia would go to Maryland or a Florida school, but this is worth watching https://t.co/VZYDXexOBc

If he does choose The U, that's going to make for a REAL interesting QB room.

Taulia signed with UA as part of the Crimson Tide’s 2019 recruiting class. Coming out of Thompson, he was rated the No. 5 pro-style prospect, No. 8 recruit in the state of Alabama and No. 180 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. As a recruit, he collected 14 scholarship offers, including Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Alabama also signed 4-star pro-style prospect Paul Tyson in the 2019 class. In the 2020 recruiting class, the Crimson Tide landed 5-star dual-threat QB Bryce Young. Mac Jones, a 3-star 2017 signee, is expected to be the team’s starting QB this fall.
Taulia appeared in 5 games in the 2019 season, meaning he cannot claim it as a redshirt season. In limited action, he was 9-of-12 passing for 100 yards and a touchdown.
