The South Carolina Gamecocks have been without their defensive line coach, Travian Robertson, this season as he has been away from the team while recovering from the severe injuries he sustained in a head-on car crash back on August 22nd.

The team announced at the time of the accident that the third-year defensive assistant for Carolina was hospitalized with several serious injuries, but the exact extent of those injuries wasn’t disclosed.

Now nearly a month removed from the accident, Robertson has released a statement via his attorney giving a highly sought-after update on his condition, according to Football Scoop’s Zach Barnett.

The statement starts by saying that Robertson is at home and recovering, but that he also sustained “life-changing” injuries that required multiple surgeries, and that the road to full recovery “has been and will be a journey.”

According to the law firm Robertson has hired to represent him in the legal case surrounding the crash, the Gamecocks’ assistant was struck by a driver who they believe to be under the influence of alcohol, and they plan to investigate the incident “vigorously.”

Robertson also said how grateful he and his family are for the outpouring of support they have received in the wake of the accident, and that his focus is on making a full recovery so that he can get back to being the “husband, father, and coach he has been called to be.”

Mr. Robertson sustained severe and life-changing injuries so far requiring a total of five surgeries for internal and external damage when he was struck head-on by a driver who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and crossed the center line,” the statement reads.

‘”Keittany, our three boys, and I sincerely appreciate the outpouring of prayers and support we have received from the community in the weeks since my accident. It has been and will continue to be a journey, but I am grateful to God my life was spared. My current focus is on recovery and rehabilitation so I can get back to being the husband, father, and coach I am called to be.’

“The Robertson family extends their sincere gratitude to the firefighters, medical personnel and bystanders at the scene, and the medical personnel at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Mr. Robertson was released from the hospital on Friday, September 5, 2025 after a 14-day hospitalization, including 10 grueling days in the Intensive Care Unit. At this time, the family is asking for privacy as Mr. Robertson focuses on healing.

Robertson and his family will undoubtedly remain in the thoughts of Gamecock fans everywhere as he continues to work his way back from the injuries he sustained. Hopefully, Robertson will be able to make a full recovery, and he’ll be back to roaming the South Carolina sidelines in the very near future.
