Running back Rico Dowdle was expected to take an official visit to South Carolina later this month, but apparently he doesn’t need to.

The three-star prospect out of Asheville, N.C., has committed to South Carolina, and announced it via Twitter on Friday.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder had received offers from Boston College, NC State, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, among a few others.

Dowdle stood out in the Shrine Bowl on Dec. 19. Despite rushing just three times for 19 yards, he scored on a 15-yard run. He shined more as a pass-catcher out of the backfield with a team-high 5 catches for 48 yards and another touchdown.

Dowdle is the second running back in the Gamecocks’ 2016 class, joining CJ Freeman.
