The Mobile, Ala. native came to South Carolina as a 6-foot-2, 286-pound defensive lineman and was moved to the offensive line during camp. Whitfield did not play this season, taking a redshirt.
The former three-star recruit was rated the No. 20 prospect from Alabama and had offers from Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Missouri.
